Bergamot
Bergamot is a sunny, uplifting oil with a citrus fragrance and spicy overtones. It is used in body lotions, shampoos and salt scrubs and can be helpful for oily skin. Avoid using on skin prior to exposure to sunlight.
Chamomile, Roman
Roman Chamomile is a sweet oil with a somewhat apple like scent. It can be used in face and body lotions and is gentle enough to add to baby products in low dilution. This is a soothing oil, suitable for all skin types and is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties. It may be helpful for eczema, psoriasis and problem skin.
Citronella
Citronella has a characteristic fresh, lemony scent. It is widely used as an insect repellent. It also has excellent deodorizing properties. Often used in lotions and sprays to repel mosquitoes and other biting insects, citronella can also be blended in scrubs and lotions to freshen the feet. Not advised for use on children under 3 years old.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus has a slightly medicinal scent. It is distilled from the leaves of a native Australian tree. It is useful as a refreshing and anti- bacterial addition to body and hair care products and is also used as an insect repellent.
Frankincense Essential Oil Frankincense
Geranium Essential Oil Geranium
Geranium has a floral, rose-like scent. It is a balancing and versatile oil which is often used as a substitute for Rose. Used in skin and body products for its lovely smell, it is also considered to be beneficial for eczema and dry skin.
Grapefruit
Grapefruit has a sharp, clean, citrus scent. Uplifting and stimulating, it can be used in hair, body and bath products, particularly in preparations for acne and oily skin.
Jasmine
Jasmine is a sensual and exotic oil. It has been valued since ancient times for its exquisite scent and therapeutic properties. In Persia it was known as ‘Gift of God’. Calming and nourishing for all skin types, particularly mature, damaged and sensitive skin, Jasmine can be used in creams, bath products and massage oils.
Lavender
Lavender has a sweet, floral scent. It is a versatile oil, which can be used for all skin types. Lavender’s soothing qualities make it particularly helpful for eczema, psoriasis, burns and insect bites. It can be used in all body and bath products.
Lemon
Lemon has a fresh, zesty scent. It can be used in hair, body and bath products and is very refreshing in salt scrubs. Do not use in direct sunlight.
Lime
Lime has a sharp citrus aroma. Its refreshing fragrance is particularly suitable for bath products. Do not use in direct sunlight.
Mandarin
Mandarin has a bright, fresh and sunny scent. It can be used in hair, bath and body products and is very refreshing in salt scrubs. It is excellent for oily skin. Do not use in direct sunlight.
Myrrh
Myrrh is a warm and earthy scented oil. It was used by the ancient Egyptians as an ingredient in skincare, perfumes and incense. Myrrh is still valued today for its therapeutic properties and is effective for all skin types, especially mature and eczema prone skin.
Neroli
Neroli is a sensual, floral oil with citrus overtones. Distilled from orange blossoms, it is one of the original ingredients in Eau de Cologne. Neroli can be beneficial for all skin types, particularly dry, irritated or sensitive skin. It is a beautiful fragrance for all body and bath products.
Patchouli
Patchouli is an earthy, heady and musky oil. It became the scent of the 60′s because Patchouli leaves were used to wrap clothes coming from India. The oil is recommended for all skin types and is especially helpful for aging or eczema-prone skin. It can be used in shampoos for dandruff and as a calming, relaxing ingredient in bath and skin preparations.
Peppermint
Peppermint is a cool, fresh, minty oil. It is used in shampoos, salt scrubs, lip balms and deodorants. Peppermint is an intense oil so it might be necessary to reduce the amount of drops in any given recipe. Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Pine
Pine has a light, fresh, and slightly woody scent. Valued for its antiseptic properties, it can be used in soaps, deodorants and air fresheners.
Rose
Rose has a warm floral scent. Loved for its exquisite fragrance since ancient times, it is also renowned for its use in skin care. It is beneficial for all skin types but particularly those of a mature and dry nature. Rose is popular in body and bath preparations, especially creams and sensual massage oils.
Rosemary
Rosemary has a fresh, herbal scent. An ancient aromatic, it was used by the Egyptians and Romans for its therapeutic properties and is also an original ingredient in Eau de Cologne. One of the best essential oils for the hair and scalp, Rosemary is invigorating and stimulating. It is reputed to be an aid to mental concentration and is sometimes used by students preparing for exams. Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Sandalwood
Sandalwood has a woody, earthy and mystical scent. A traditional ingredient in incense, it is renowned for its calming and meditative properties. Sandalwood is also reputed to be excellent for the skin, benefiting all skin types, especially dry, aging and irritated skin. This versatile oil can be used in face, body and bath preparations and is ideal in men’s aftershave and face creams.
Sweet Marjoram
Sweet Marjoram has a fresh, herbal scent. It is a warming and calming ingredient in foot scrubs. Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Sweet Orange
Sweet Orange has a bright and uplifting orange scent. It can be used in hair, skin and bath products. Do not use in direct sunlight.
Tea Tree
Tea Tree has a medicinal scent. It is distilled from the leaves and twigs of an Australian tree and is one of the most useful essential oils due to its anti-viral, anti-septic and anti-fungal properties. Tea Tree can be helpful in lotions and shampoos for acne and dandruff and is also effective in deodorants. It can be used neat on bites and stings. Some people develop a negative reaction to Tea Tree due to overuse.
Vetivert
Vetivert has an earthy, woody fragrance. A calming and relaxing oil, it is useful in bath preparations and in shampoos for oily hair. Vetivert is an intense oil so it might be necessary to reduce the amount of drops in any given recipe. Not recommended for children under 12yrs. Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Ylang-ylang
Ylang-ylang has a sweet and tropical fragrance. A reputed aphrodisiac, Ylang-ylang means ‘flower of flowers’ and it is often described as one of the most sensual of the essential oils. Its luxurious scent is perfect for bath and body products and is nourishing for all skin types.
